The Malawi Network of Aids Service Organizations (MANASO) is leading a consortium of three partners comprising Innovation for change (IFC), National Association for People Living with HIV and AIDS in Malawi (NAPHAM) and MANASO itself to implement the USAID funded PAMODZI project. This is a 3-year project that aims to improve access to, quality and accountability of HIV/SRHR/GBV services among AGYW, ABYM and women of reproductive age group in institution of higher learning and their surrounding communities by February 2024. The project is being implemented in the 3 districts of Blantyre, Zomba and Lilongwe targeting 3 institutions of higher learning: Malawi University of Business Studies (MUBAS- Previously known as -The Polytechnic), The University of Malawi, Chancellor College (CHANCO) and The Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR – BUNDA and NRC) and surrounding communities.
Project Objectives:
- To increase uptake of HIV/SRHR/GBV services and retention of AGYW, ABYM and women of reproductive age group at institutions of higher learning and surrounding communities through awareness and treatment literacy.
- To strengthen community engagement and accountability mechanisms for ensuring quality HIV/SRHR/GBV services for AGYW, ABYM and women of reproductive age groups.
- To strengthen coordination and networking among partners and community social actors in promoting positive social behavior change and accountability in accessing quality HIV/SRHR/GBV services.
The project is premised on a background of insufficient community engagement, participation, and ownership of community health services; community structures (including women and youth organizations) with limited technical capacity and insufficient clarity on their roles and responsibilities to influence accountability on health service delivery.
PAMODZI will empower community structures with versatile information and skills to promote, monitor and demand good governance and accountability while fostering a problem solving culture. PAMODZI project promotes collective action through use of Community score-card processes, interactive sporting and music workshops in implementing HIV treatment literacy sessions towards increased access to quality SRH, GBV and HIV services for the youth.
